As a city councilor I intend to focus on the following issues:
- Balancing the budget in response to the current economic downturn
- Reducing energy consumption through increasing energy efficiency in
City buildings
- Raising our standard of education
- Examining Ward 3's unique public safety needs
- Scrutinizing the level of transparency at city hall
- Supporting President Obama's initiatives and agendas on a local
level, including
- creating green jobs
- expanding alternative energy
- supporting small business
- building better schools
Burlington needs to be fiscally responsible in this economic climate and foster entrepreneurship to preserve Burlington's future. I promise to maintain our vital social programs while restraining city spending to keep taxes from rising. Too many families are worried about losing their jobs and homes to add further tax burden.
Oour neighborhood schools need to remain a top priority. If they are not properly funded now it will be more costly in the future. Education is the most important social service the city provides.
Bringing green jobs to Burlington should be a top priority at city hall. Alternative energy business will be receiving federal stimulus money. Burlington needs to position itself to attract these businesses by using targeted tax incentives and incubators.
I will work to provide the police with the tools needed to prevent crime and make our streets safe. Ward 3 needs someone ot focus on our unique safety needs
I will not let party politics stop the City Council from doing what is best for Burlington.
